  1. Students are leveled in our school wide WIN (What I Need) program which focuses on math and Language Arts. GATE students are placed in the accelerated group and are working on many STEM related projects and activities to challenge them. (30 minutes daily) Some examples of GATE related activities include Race Car Math, Number Talks, Math Challenge activities, History Day research and preparation, in depth research and writing activities.
  2. ELD - During ELD time, GATE students are leveled and placed in groups focusing on writing. These students are challenged with rigorous writing activities in order to improve their writing skills as well as broaden their knowledge of the writing process. Stallings has a school wide writing SMART goal in which students strive to earn a score of 3 or 4 based on a 4-point rubric.
  3. All teachers with GATE students enrolled in their classes modify class work as well as homework in order to challenge GATE students. Extra homework isn't assigned, instead students receive more challenging, enriching homework. In addition, some students are assigned iReady for homework. The iReady computer program is designed to meet the needs of the individual student. The math and language arts lessons in iReady are individually assigned at each student's academic level.
  4. Expanded Learning Program - Stallings after school program (August - June) as well as our Summer School program (3 weeks in June) is aligned with STEAM. In the after school program, students work on STEAM related activities each month and present them to the group. The entire summer school program also integrates STEAM. There are many hands on activities, a creation room, assemblies, and projects students work on during this 3-week program.
  5. Family Nights - Stallings has several family nights throughout the year for families and students to come together and learn various reading and math strategies. In February, we will have a Winter Math Family Night Numbers Festival. During the school day, students are challenged with hands on math activities and problem solving equations. That evening, students bring their families back to school to work on the math activities together.

One Friday per month throughout the school year, Stallings hosts Family Literacy Fridays. Parents are encouraged to come to school and read with the students.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact the principal, Dr. Tammy Strawser.
